I was standing on a beach two years ago when Jeremy Parkinson, the former author of Atlantic France, a pilot book published by Imray, asked me if I might take over from him as author. In actuality my challenge is to produce a new edition of the book. A few other things fell into place and here I find myself sitting on Wild Bird in Brest with the engine in pieces!
We sailed from Hamble on 30th April so as to get a head start on the season. Julian Lyne-Pirkis and Nigel Jones crewed the boat and we sailed via Guernsey and Roscoff to the pilot book’s start point, L’Aberwrac’h. Victoria who was between jobs took the soft option and bought a ticket on the ferry from Plymouth to Roscoff. She bought her bicycle and met us in L’Aberwrac’h.
We spent a couple of days in L’Aberwrac’h designing a system to capture the information required for updating the book. We then ventured round the corner to L’Aber Benoit and on to L’Aber Ildut, where Victoria cycled off to catch a train in Brest and the ferry back to Plymouth in order to start a new job.
