Golfe du Morbihan


After the Isles de Glenan, Wild Bird and I found our way to Port la Foret, Concarneau, Rivers Aven and Belon, Doelan, Lomener and Lorient. We met up with Joe and Clare Fraser in Locmiquelic and the addition to the crew of another two pairs of hands was greatly appreciated.

Back on the Road (Water) again after 17 days......


I am delighted to report that Wild Bird of Fowey is back on the road again after a long and frustrating period of engine problems. For those engine buffs out there; we have cleaned the heat exchanger and lots of pipes, replaced the injectors, removed and made good the cylinder head and its gasket, replaced the fresh water pump and thermostat….

Back to Brest for engine repairs......


We left the beautiful Chateaulin on Monday and were happily motoring towards Camaret when I noticed the temperature guage was recording 120 degrees C! The light was on but no alarm sounding. There were plumes of white smoke wafting out of the exhaust pipe.

Rade de Brest and the rivers


The next few days saw me exploring the anchorages in the Rade de Brest and the rivers Elorn and Aulne. I spent all day motoring from one anchorage to the next and taking photographs which should be useful for the book.

Le Conquet and on to Brest


I was quite keen to get back to the mainland as being on my own in Ushant and in not a terribly well protected harbour was not a relaxing feeling! I made my way to Le Conquet which is not really suitable for cruising yachts but the local fishermen made me feel welcome.

Hamble and Home at last!


We are finally home after 17 weeks away! The stats include 119 consecutive nights spent on board, 4,239 miles covered, Several nights at sea, at anchor, on moorings and in marinas. We had about 20 friends and family who joined us for various lengths of time for different parts of the voyage.

We left Yarmouth at lunch time and had a lovely sail up the Solent to Newtown for tea. After tea we had a very fast sail with the tide to Beaulieu to join the RCC Meet. We took 4 attempts at anchoring in a safe spot and just as well, as the wind got up during the night and there was a major pyjama party during the silent hours! We, however slept soundly.
